Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro recieves the 2025 Professionalism Award from the Mahoning County Bar Association (MCBA)

Congratulations to Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro, recipient of the 2025 Professionalism Award from the Mahoning County Bar Association (MCBA).

Prosecutor Maro was honored for more than 30 years of dedicated legal practice and for exemplifying the values outlined in the Lawyer’s Creed: competence, diligence, fairness, integrity, and civility.

“It is very nice to be recognized. My 35 years of practicing law have been about serving my clients and seeking justice. It is a wonderful profession, and I’m very proud to be a part of it,” said Prosecutor Maro.

Judges and colleagues across Mahoning County praised Prosecutor Maro for her professionalism and commitment. Judge John Durkin noted that she consistently pursued not only the best legal outcomes for her clients but also solutions to the underlying issues that often contribute to criminal charges, such as substance use disorder, mental health challenges, or barriers to employment and housing.

“Everyone deserves Constitutional protections, and Lynn is dedicated to ensuring those protections are fairly applied in the legal system,” said Jennifer Robbins, Chief of the Juvenile Division.

This award adds to a long list of professional recognitions. In 2003, Prosecutor Maro received the MCBA Distinguished Service Award. She was named MCBA Lawyer of the Year in 2023 and was honored by the HOPE Foundation of the Mahoning Valley in 2024.

As Mahoning County Prosecutor, Maro continues to implement reforms aimed at improving case prosecution and strengthening communication with civil statutory clients. Her leadership has focused on eliminating inefficiencies, promoting consistency, and ensuring fairness in the resolution of cases.

“We have restructured the process for resolving murder cases and other violent felonies. If an assistant prosecutor seeks to reduce charges in such cases, the decision must come through me or the Chief of the Criminal Division,” Maro explained. “This ensures uniformity in the way cases are resolved, rather than outcomes varying depending on which assistant prosecutor or courtroom is assigned.”

Prosecutor Maro accepted the 2025 Professionalism Award on September 8, 2025. She joins previous honorees within her office, including John Juhasz, Chief of the Criminal Division (2018 recipient), and Kathi McNabb Welsh, Chief of the Civil Division (2021 recipient).
