Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office holds donation drive in recognition of Domestic Violence Awarness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Mahoning County Prosecutor’s
Office wants to spread the word. “So many people in our community are affected by domestic
violence that we want to raise awareness and provide resources for victims.” said Chief Assistant
Prosecutor and Public Information Officer, Gina DeGenova.

The Prosecutor’s Office is holding a donation drive based on “wish list” items identified
by Sojourner House Domestic Violence Program. Donations can be dropped off in the lobby of
the Mahoning County Administration Building, located at 21 W. Boardman Street, Youngstown,
OH 44503 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday during the entire month of October.

“We see the need for these items, first hand. Each day, our Victim-Witness Coordinators
and members of our Violence Against Women and Children Unit, work to protect the rights of
victims of domestic violence and to ensure that their abusers are brought to justice.” Said Chief
Assistant DeGenova. Sojourner House, a program of COMPASS Community and Family
Services, provides shelter and other essential services to victims of domestic violence across
Mahoning County.

Some of the items on the Sojourner House wish list include: Gift cards to grocery stores,
Twin XL Sheets with pillow cases, standard sized pillows, disposable diapers (all sizes), baby
wipes, undershirts (all infant sizes), pull-ups, teething rings, bath towels and wash cloths, socks of
all sizes, personal hygiene products, ethnic hair care products, and sleepwear (especially plus sizes
for women).

“If you know someone who works at the Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office, please
give them your donation if you can’t make it downtown,” recommends DeGenova. “Every
donation counts.”
