Another handful of wonderful students received high praise and awards last night at the South Range Board of Education Meeting. These students were an intricate part of the October Domestic Violence Awareness that raised more than 10,000 items for several local Domestic Violence shelters. Each student received a certificate of appreciation for their hard work.
This entire program started with a single student with a big idea. In 2021, as a South Range junior, Macenzee Gaal was bold and brave enough to engage with our office about starting this drive, with hopes of turning it into a multi-county program that would support several domestic violence shelters, more students, and more communities. Ms. Gaal did exactly that.
After coming off of a successful 2021 drive which raised more than 3,000 items, she approached our office about her goal for 2022. Prosecutor DeGenova believed in Ms. Gaal’s vision and decided to support her idea with resources from our office. Our office proudly announces that Ms. Gaal was presented with a special proclamation from the Ohio Statehouse and representative Lauren McNally. The proclamation read, in part, “You (Macenzee Gaal) are deserving of high praise, for you have become a dynamic advocate of change over the past two years. You have impacted your community through your efforts of heading up a community-wide initiative to collect donations to benefit area domestic violence programs offered by the Sojourner house during October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month. You have demonstrated the utmost concern for Ohio’s women and children. Truly you have made a positive contribution to the world around you.”
We want to thank all the students, staff, and administration at South Range Local School District for their hard work and efforts to continue this drive and help Ohio families in need.
