JURY FINDS DEFENDANT TODD PERKINS GUILTY

State of Ohio v. Todd Perkins, Case No. 2019 CR 356

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – On Thursday, February 8, 2024, a jury found 58-year-old Todd Perkins guilty on both counts of rape and gross sexual imposition that occurred in 2015-16 against Perkins’ then 4-year-old biological daughter.

Perkins was indicted on May 9, 2019, by the Mahoning County Grand Jury. On May 7, 2021, Perkins originally pled guilty to two child rapes and was sentenced to fifteen years to life by Judge Sweeney. An appeals court returned the case, ruling that the court should have granted a motion to sever the cases of the victims, one of which was the victim in this case.

“What happened to this young girl is truly horrendous,” said Prosecutor Gina DeGenova. “I commend her tremendous resilience and bravery. It is very gratifying to see the jury hold Todd Perkins accountable for sexually abusing his young daughter, this 11-year old girl has waited so many years for justice. Today she finally got it.”

“I also congratulate the hard work of my team of lawyers, Criminal Chief Rob Andrews and Assistant Prosecutors Kevin Day and Daniel Yozwiak,” said Prosecutor DeGenova.

“This case and those like it are precisely why we initiated a Special Victims Unit and remain committed to ensure that those who commit these monstrous crimes against children will be brought to justice,” said Prosecutor DeGenova. “Rest assured, if you sexually assault children in Mahoning County, our dedicated team of law enforcement officers and prosecutors will do everything in our power to prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law.”
