BRANDON CRUMP SENTENCED TO 52 – 53 1/2 YEARS TO LIFE FOR THE MURDER OF ROWAN SWEENEY AND ATTEMPTED MURDER OF 4 OTHERS

State of Ohio v. Brandon Crump, Case No. 2021 CR 102

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO MONDAY, JULY 29, 2024 – 21-year-old Brandon Crump, Jr. was sentenced to 52 to 53 and a half years to life for the Aggravated Murder of 4-year-old Rowan Sweeney, and Attempted Murders of Andre McCoy, Yarnell Green, Alexis Schneider, and Cassandra Marsicola, as well as Aggravated Burglary, Aggravated Robbery, Conspiracy, and Firearm Specifications.

“The murderer of Rowan Sweeney has finally faced justice,” said Prosecutor Gina DeGenova. “As a community, we recognize the devastating impact of Crump’s brutal crimes on his adult victims, but it is Rowan’s family who has been irrevocably changed by this senseless act of violence.”

On September 21, 2020, Crump burst through the front door of 111 Perry Street in Struthers, Ohio, and unleashed a .45 caliber handgun on the five people in the home’s living room. Four adults sustained gunshot wounds. As 4-year-old Rowan’s mother begged Crump to spare his life, Crump shot Rowan four times. He then grabbed cash from the coffee table and fled the residence.

“For the past four years, Rowan’s family has endured an agonizing wait for justice. Today, we were finally able to provide them with the resolution they have so desperately needed,” said Prosecutor DeGenova. “Our office, in partnership with law enforcement, is unwavering in our commitment to securing justice for victims of such heinous acts. We hope this sentence provides a measure of closure and peace to Rowan’s loved ones.”

“I commend the hard work of my team of lawyers,” said Prosecutor DeGenova. “Today, we mourn the loss of Rowan, but we also find solace in knowing that his killer will no longer be a menace to our community and others, for a very long time.”
