YOUNGSTOWN, OH – Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge Maureen Sweeney has sentenced Brianna Zagotti to the maximum term of three years in prison for one count of Endangering Children, a felony of the third degree. The sentence follows a four-day jury trial in February, where Zagotti was found guilty of the Endangering Children charge but found not guilty of Involuntary Manslaughter. Assistant Prosecutors Caitlyn Andrews and Patrick Fening successfully prosecuted the case.
The charges stem from a July 2023 incident, when Austintown Police responded to Zagotti’s apartment at the Compass West complex and found her child unresponsive. An autopsy later revealed the presence of fentanyl in the child’s system.
Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro thanked the Austintown Police Department for their diligence and hard work throughout the investigation.
