Youngstown Man Receives Life in Prison for Murder

Youngstown (OH) – Andre Bailey, 40, was sentenced to life in prison with eligibility for parole after serving 39 years. In February, a jury found Bailey guilty of the murder of 24-year-old Reynaldo Hernandez. Bailey was found guilty of two counts of Aggravated Murder, one count of Murder, one count of Aggravated Robbery, one count of Tampering with Evidence, and one count of Having Weapons Under Disability. The Prosecutor’s Office rejected efforts to have the charges reduced in exchange for a guilty plea to Manslaughter. Chief of the Criminal Division, John Juhasz, successfully prosecuted the case along with Assistant Prosecutor Katherine Jones.

“This sentence reflects our continued commitment to holding violent offenders accountable and ensuring we decline efforts to reduce high-level felony charges,” said Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro.

In October of 2024, Hernandez was shot and killed at Bailey’s home on Bott Street, located on Youngstown’s East Side. There were several people in the home at the time of the murder, but Bailey was seen on surveillance camera pointing a firearm at Hernandez. Some of the co-defendants assisted Hernandez into a vehicle after he had been shot and left him in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Police found Hernandez’s body early the following morning.

Prosecutor Maro thanks the Youngstown Police Department for all its hard work in securing a guilty conviction in this case.
