The Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office objects to the release of man serving time for Kidnapping and Murder

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office is objecting to the release of an inmate who is serving time on Murder related charges. Kenneth Moncrief is serving a prison term of 15-years-to-life for kidnapping and the murder of two men in Youngstown in 2009.

Defendant Kenneth Moncrief is serving 15-years-to-life term of incarceration following a guilty plea to seven offenses. Two counts of murder, two counts of Kidnapping, two counts of Aggravated Robbery, and one count of Arson. On August 11, 2009 Moncrief along with his co-Defendant Lorenza Barnette duct taped two victims to chairs and suffocated them. The two victims’ bodies were found in a burning car near the Mahoning River. Moncrief was sentenced to 15-years-to-life for his role in the murders. Moncrief has 13 infractions from August 2013 to February 2022.

Due to the nature of Moncrief’s participation in the two murders there is reason to believe that the defendant could continue to be a risk to public safety and wouldn’t be able to conform to societal laws and rules. Moncrief has 13 infractions from August 2013 to February 2022 with 4 of those infractions occurring within the past 10 years of his incarceration. Moncrief’s infractions demonstrate a history of disobedience and an unwillingness to obey the institutions’ rules and regulations.

For all of these reasons, the Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office, through Prosecutor Lynn A. Maro, strongly objects to the release of Kenneth Moncrief.
