Second Woman Sentenced After Juvenile Hospitalized with Life-Threatening Injuries

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A woman who admitted to her role in contributing to a child’s life-threatening injuries has been sentenced to prison. Essence Revely, 30, was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to Child Endangering, a felony of the third degree. The sentence represents the maximum penalty for the charge.

Visiting Judge W. Wyatt McKay imposed the sentence Wednesday morning following the plea agreement, which was successfully negotiated by Assistant Prosecutor Kyle Hilles. Assistant Prosecutor Hilles recommended a three-year term behind bars for Revely, and the court adopted that sentence.

Revely was originally indicted at the end of 2025 after an investigation into the abuse of a juvenile. In October 2025, her co-defendant, Kamille Hibbitt, brought the child to Akron Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Medical staff recorded the child’s internal body temperature at just 85 degrees Fahrenheit and identified multiple serious injuries consistent with prolonged abuse and neglect. The victim weighed in at 28 pounds when they were brought to Akron Children’s Hospital. Hospital staff stated that this was one of the worst abuse cases they had ever seen.

In March, Hibbitt was also sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to Child Endangering.

Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro credited the work of the Struthers Police Department and Assistant Prosecutor Hilles for their efforts in securing accountability in this case.
