YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A man who was arrested and plead to shooting into a home on the city’s west side was sentenced by visiting Judge William McGinty on Wednesday. Jonathan Spikes, 48, was sentenced to 5-6 years in prison following a guilty plea to one charge of Improperly Discharging a Firearm at or into a Habitation or a School Safety Zone, a Felony of the second degree. Assistant Prosecutor Daniel Yozwiak successfully prosecuted the case.
Spikes plead to the indicted charges in early August.
In June of 2025, police arrested Spikes after he unloaded gunfire into a home on North Portland Avenue. The building was home to small children and several other people, who were at home at the time of the shooting. Luckily, no one was injured, but police quickly identified Spikes as the suspect and arrested him.
Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro commends the Youngstown Police Department and her Assistant Prosecutor for securing a conviction in this case.
