YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Brian Swansiger, 29, was sentenced to 20 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of two counts of rape.
Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge Maureen Sweeney sentenced Swansiger to 10 years on each count, with the sentences to run consecutively. Swansiger was also classified as a Tier III sex offender, the most serious designation, requiring him to register with his local county sheriff every 90 days for the rest of his life.
Swansiger was found guilty at the conclusion of a six-day jury trial in June. Assistant Prosecutors Kyle Hilles and Kristie Weibling prosecuted the case.
The convictions stem from a 2018 incident in which Swansiger sexually assaulted the victim after visiting her residence. Following a lengthy investigation, the case was presented to a Mahoning County grand jury, which returned a secret indictment in 2025.
Assistant Prosecutor Weibling emphasized the lasting impact of the assault, stating that the victim will be “scarred for the rest of her life.” Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro credited the Struthers Police Department, the United States Air Force, and Assistant Prosecutors Hilles and Weibling for their work in bringing the case forward and securing the convictions.
