Man Found Guilty of 20 Sexual Crimes, Including Eight Counts of Rape

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Damaris Timothy Grant, 46, was found guilty of 20 sex crime charges, including eight counts of Rape. Grant was found guilty following a four-day jury trial held before Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge Anthony Donofrio. Grant was found guilty of eight counts of Rape, four counts of Sexual Battery, three counts of Pandering Sexually-Oriented Matter Involving a Minor or Impaired Person, and five counts of Endangering Children. Assistant Prosecutors Joseph Suszczynski and Brad Gessner successfully prosecuted this case. This is Assistant Prosecutor Joseph Suszczynski’s first conviction following a jury trial.

In 2023, a minor came forward to a nurse practitioner at Akron Children’s Hospital accusing Grant of sexual assault. That nurse practitioner contacted the Children Services Board and the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office, informing them of the sexual assault allegations. The minor said they lived with Grant for a while. He had been sexually assaulting them since they were 12. During an investigation, police uncovered several nude photos of the minor on an app connected to Grant’s phone. Following the investigation, Grant was arrested and charged for his crimes. The indictment following the arrest listed 20 counts, all of which were sex crimes.

Grant will be sentenced at a later date.

Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro commends the hard work of the Assistant Prosecutors, the sheriff’s office, Akron Children’s Child Advocacy Center, and the various clinicians for bringing a case that led to Grant’s conviction.
